Installation Tutorials

On this page, we go over various useful methods of installing addons like ACF.

Installing legacy addons from github

ACF, like most large addons, is a "legacy addon"
This means that you can't install it using the workshop.

Worry not though, it's just a few extra steps before you're up and running!

Using the git commandline interface

Using a command line might be scary at first, but it's actually suprisingly easy.

First though, you need to install it.

Download Git

Once youre done installing it, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Where to install

ACF needs to be installed in a specific directory.
If you install steam games somewhere else:

YourSteamInstall/steamapps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/addons

If you install steam games regularly, on your C drive, it'll be here:

C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/addons

Step 2: Using the Git CLI

Assuming you've made it to your addons folder, theres not much left to do!

You dont need to do anything special with the url from github.

https://github.com/nrlulz/ACF

Copy that url to your clipboard, right click in an empty space in your addons folder, and click Git Bash Here

A terminal will open up
And you only need to enter one command to start downloading.

git clone https://github.com/nrlulz/ACF/
You need to right click to paste in the console window, CTRL-V does not work.

Hit enter, and the download will start.

It may take a while, depending on your internet speed.

Once it's done downloading, you are finished!

Using TortoiseSVN

TortoiseSVN is an Apache Subversion client, implemented as a Windows shell extension.
It's more suited for users that prefer to have an interface instead of a commandline.

First though, youre gonna need to install it.

Download TortosieSVN

Once youre done installing Tortoise, follow these steps.

Step 1: Where to install

ACF needs to be installed in a specific directory.
If you install steam games somewhere else:

YourSteamInstall/steamapps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/addons

If you install steam games regularly, on your C drive, it'll be here:

C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/addons

Step 2: Using TortoiseSVN

Assuming you've made it to your addons folder, it's pretty easy from here on out.

You must format urls in a specific way for TortoiseSVN to download them correctly!
Any Github Link, eg. https://github.com/nrlulz/ACF must have /trunk appended to it.

So, the correct url to download ACF with TortoiseSVN would be:
https://github.com/nrlulz/ACF/trunk

Copy that url to your clipboard, right click in an empty space in your addons folder, and click SVN Checkout

Once you click that, a new window will open up:

Please PLEASE for the love of god, make sure you're not installing into../addons/ACF/ACF/
as this screws up the structure, and ACF will not work.

If everything looks right, you can click OK and the download will commence, a new window will show up.

The addon is about 1.32GB in size. This is gonna take a while

After 7 years of downloading, it should be done.

You're done! You can launch Garry's Mod and "ACF Menu" should be in your tool menu!
